DESIGN MISTAKES THAT HURT YOUR BRAND
(AND HOW TO FIX THEM)
Sharing a few tips for the small biz owners out there who are DIYing their brand visuals, because here’s the thing:
Design is one of the fastest ways to build trust, stand out, and make people want to stick around. So today, I’m sharing a few common design mistakes that might be holding your brand back and how to fix them yourself when working with a designer isn’t on your radar yet.
INCONSISTENT BRANDING ACROSS PLATFORMS
Your Insta says one thing, your website says another, and your ads? Something else entirely.
It confuses your audience.
FIX: Keep your colours, fonts, logo and vibe consistent everywhere so people instantly recognise your brand, no matter where they find you.
DESIGN THAT DOESN'T MATCH YOUR BRAND'S
If your brand is bold and energetic but you're using soft, neutral templates, something's not clicking. That disconnect creates confusion.
FIX: Your visuals should reflect your vibe, whether it's playful, luxe, moody, earthy, or loud. Let the design match the energy.
HARD-TO-READ TEXT ON SOCIAL POSTS/ADS
Yes, that font looks cute... but if people can't read it in 2 seconds, they're out.
FIX: Make sure your text is clear, bold, and easy to read, especially on mobile (because that's where most people will see it!).
USING TEMPLATES WITHOUT CUSTOMISING THEM
Canva is great, but if you're using popular templates without tweaking them, your brand ends up looking like everyone else's.
FIX: Switch up the fonts, colours, layout, even a few small changes can make it feel way more 'you'.
Hope that was helpful!
